Important Session Details & Safety

  • 30-Minute Studio Block: Your total scheduled time at the studio is 30 minutes. This includes 10 minutes at the start to arrive, use our private restroom, get the kids changed, and get acclimated, followed by your dedicated 20-minute pool session. Afterward, please feel free to take your time changing and wrapping up before you head out!

  • Mermaid Tail Option: Want to add some extra magic? I have beautiful fabric mermaid tails available to use in all sizes! Because working with tails underwater is much more time-intensive, I only allow one child in a mermaid tail per 20-minute session. (Exception: If you have multiple children who only want above-water photos on the shallow pool shelf or poolside, we can easily accommodate more than one tail!) Please let me know your child's clothing size ahead of time so I can have the perfect tail ready.

  • Large Families (4+ Kids): To ensure everyone gets plenty of camera time without rushing, please book two back-to-back sessions for more than 3 children.

  • Safety & Swimming Ability: I will not have an assistant in the water for these events. If your child cannot swim safely on their own, a parent must be in the pool to assist them.

  • Competitive Swimmers: If your child is a competitive swimmer, let me know! We can easily use their time to capture dramatic, high-impact athletic action shots.

  • Caps & Goggles: If you want caps and goggles in the photos, please make sure they are fitted, adjusted, and ready to go by the time your pool session begins.

FAQs

  • We encourage cute swimwear for these sessions—bright colors are especially fun and look amazing underwater!

Mermaid tails are also a wonderful option for a magical touch. To ensure everyone stays safe and we make the most of our time together getting great photos, please make sure your child has practiced swimming in the tail first to get the hang of it.

  • Goggles are optional and sometimes preferred! While often parents prefer their child to go without, in some cases, it’s better to use them – seeing their eyes through a clear lens is often better than them looking squinty-eyed and uncomfortable. We bring goggles to have on hand but bring your own if you think you might need them. Some kids are quite particular about their eyewear!

  • Yes! Parents are welcome and encouraged to join in too.

  • A minimum breath hold of 3 seconds is enough time for us to get great photos.

  • My approach is very calm and gentle, and I do everything we can to make sure your child is comfortable and having fun. If for some reason they are having a difficult time, we will take a short break and reset.

  • Absolutely! I have extensive experience capturing beautiful underwater moments with infants and toddlers. If your little one is already practicing submersions in swim class and can comfortably submerge for 2–3 seconds, we can capture some incredible photos.

Because these are held at my private studio pool, I do not have a swim instructor on staff, and there will not be an assistant in the water. Parents are entirely responsible for their child's safety and must be in the pool to assist and handle them.

Here is how we handle sessions for the littlest swimmers:

    • The Shallow Pool Shelf Alternative (Highly Recommended): If your child isn't fully ready for deep submersions, or if you want a completely stress-free experience, we can shoot entirely on our 6-inch depth pool shelf. This allows babies to splash, sit, and play safely in their element.

    • Parent-Assisted Submersions: If you do choose to submerge, a parent must handle the underwater "pass" or hold. Having you right there provides total comfort and security for your baby.

  • Yes! In fact, we prefer if you are next to the pool to cheer on your child and provide support as needed.
